In the last few years a number of home automation solutions on the property market kept on increasing. Those solutions are what not a sci-fi vision anymore, they are a part of reality now, helping to automate our households. Until recently, eliminating human factor from property management (like media reading and billing, detecting flaws in water networks) seemed impossible. Now periodic visits of janitors  and manual meter reading by the tenants are slowly are things of the past. Thanks to mobile network,Internet and GPRS it is possible to make those activities faster and easier. Estimated bills are also slowly passing out of use – the tenants are far more willing to pay for exact amounts of water they used in given period and end the overpayments. Fortunately, complex solutions making those processes (and tenants life) easier are now available.

How do these solutions work?

Contrary to popular belief automating the meter reading and media billing not necessarily requires changing the installed meters nor manipulating with water, energy or gas network infrastructure. Most of the meters can be easily adjusted to meter reading, making whole process cheaper and easier to implement than it may seem. Another factor lowering installation costs is its full wirelessness. The core concept of the system is sending data by radio to the data collector on the staircase and then by internet or mobile network to the property administrator. Those adiministators who prefer traditional solutions and want to keep janitors, can choose solution based on partial automation of the process, improving the janitors work. This concept is based on providing a janitor with a meter reader, collecting data from the meters sent by the radio – the person doing the reading does not have to enter the posession, making their work easier and more pleasant.
